With more than 4000 visitors a year, the Ingres Museum based in the former Episcopal Palace, celebrates the life of two illustrious native artists : Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres who offered the city of Montauban his entire collection of 4500 drawings (which are displayed at the Museum on a rotating basis) along with 30 or so paintings and his famous violin. A fitting tribute is also paid to the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle another Montauban-born artist, with a number of works representing different periods of his life. Other collections, like those of Armand Cambon (Ingres’ friend and student and the first director of the Museum) as well as a fine series of old canvases that trace the history of painting from the 16th to the 18th-century in France and abroad, earthenware dating from the 18th and 19th-centuries and a large collection of regional archaeological finds are all on display. Frequent temporary expositions are organised such as « Ingres et les Modernes » which complement the permanent collection and make the Musée Ingres an indispensable element in Montauban’s cultural life.
The Cultural Action Service offers various activities for children: games tours, workshops, educational boxes, artistic initiation , educational and cultural activities, extra-curricular activities
